I Was even able to mute my speakers and still record the tones going through the inline from tones generated to the "Recorder". I would then be able to go to the "Sound Recorder" and with the "Tone Generator" running and a sound coming out of the speakers would click on the "RED DOT" and I would be able to start recording.
if I remember correctly, I would click "Select" selecting the "Line In", turn up the volume and that would be it. On my old Sony Vaio, which ran Windows 98, I would set my "Tone Generator" where I wanted it, bring up the "Sound Recorder", Go to - "Edit", click on "Audio Properties", under the "Sound Recording" device click "Volume", the volume control screen would pop-up and there would be a "Line In", or "Microphone" option.
My goal is to generate a specific frequency on the computer and hit the " red record" button and save it as a sound file, that I was able to do with the old windows 98, that can be latter converted to a mp3 file. The Sound Devices on both are: "SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC" I have 2 new Dells.a lap top INSPIRON B120, and a desk top DIMENSION E310. On a creative note sometimes I work with a NCH Tone Generator, which is a simple frequency generator program. How can I record sounds I generate on the computer internally? Do I need a driver upgrade or reconfigure com ports?
